Did You Know: Autism Consciousness Week

/ 04:00 AM January 20, 2020

Autism Consciousness Week is observed every third week of January by virtue of Proclamation No. 711 signed on Jan. 4, 1996, by then President Fidel Ramos.

Autism spectrum disorder is a lifelong neurological disorder typically appearing in late infancy or early childhood. It is a developmental disability characterized by social and communication deficits that impede optimal functioning.

According to the Autism Society of the Philippines, at least 1.2 million Filipinos have been diagnosed with autism. This year, Autism Consciousness Week will be observed from Jan. 20 to 26.— Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
