MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government will donate P2.5 million to five municipalities affected by the eruption of the Taal Volcano.
Resolution No. 1 series of 2020 passed by the Manila City Council said P500,000 will be given each to the towns of Taal, Talisay, Agoncillo, Lemery, and Laurel.
The funds were sourced from the city’s local disaster risk reduction and management fund, according to the resolution.
“The City Council of Manila saw the urgency to extend financial assistance to the municipalities, particularly the top 5 most affected determined upon the recommendation of the National or Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council,” it read.
Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso thanked Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Majority Floor Leader Joel Chua and members of the Manila City Council who granted his request to turn-over financial assistance to the affected municipalities.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako dahil tayong mga batang Maynila ay nagkakaisa para matulungan ang ating mga kapwa Pilipino na dumaranas ngayon ng matinding pagsubok dulot ng pagsabog ng Bulkang Taal,” he said in a statement.
(I am thankful because we here in Manila are united to help our fellow Filipinos who are now going through a great challenge due to the eruption of Taal Volcano.)
“Patuloy po sana tayong manalig sa Poong Maykapal na mailagay sa kaayusan ang mga nasalanta pati na rin ang kanilang kinalalagyan,” he added.
(I hope we will continue to trust God that all affected residents will again have normal lives.)
