BACOLOD CITY –– The Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) has sent the first batch of 28,000 Mingo meals to help feed some of the evacuees from the eruption of the Taal Volcano in Batangas.

“Our first batch of 28,000 Mingo meals is already on the way. The NVC team will operate this weekend,” said NVC President Millie Kilayko.

The NVC base will be at the St. Francis de Sales Seminary in Lipa and will cover different evacuation centers.

“We call on assistance for the Taal evacuees as emergency relief but it is more than just that. Even when people can finally go back to their homes, vegetables in the field would have died, fish on the lake would be gone. We have to be ready to help provide food and keep on helping,” Kilayko said.

Produced at the NVC factory in Bacolod City, Mingo is a nutritious instant complimentary meal made of rice, mongo, and malunggay, and is served to undernourished children all over the Philippines.

NVC had earlier also provided 170,000 Mingo meals to the victims of the recent earthquakes that hit Mindanao and 15,000 meals to the flood victims of Capiz.

Those who wish to help the Taal evacuees may contact NVC through its Executive Director Milette Regalado at 0917300 0342 or go to its office at M-13H, Negros First CyberCentre, Lacson St, Bacolod City.

NVC also accepts donations remitted via PayPal or credit card at its website www.nvcfoundation-ph.org, Kilayko said.
