Man arrested for 2009 slaying of Baclaran cop
MANILA, Philippines — Operatives of the Parañaque Police Station accosted on New Year’s Day a man accused of shooting dead a police officer detailed in Baclaran about two years ago, a ranking police official said.
In a text message to reporters, Chief Insp. Enrique Sy identified the fugitive as Arthur Vinluan, who also went by the name of Arthur Pilay.
A team of police officers led by Senior Insp. Michael Chavez served a warrant of arrest released by the court against Vinluan, who allegedly shot dead PO2 Manuel Bongcawil in August 2010, according to Sy, the chief investigator of the Parañaque police.
Bongcawil, then assigned at the Las Pinas police station, was allegedly shot by Vinluan in Baclaran.
In May 2011, Judge Fortunato Madrona of the Parañaque regional trial court branch 274 ordered Vinluan’s arrest for him to stand trial in the shooting of the police officer.
