MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Cavite and Laguna experienced brownouts following Taal Volcano’s phreatic eruption on Sunday.

In an advisory, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said they are working on restoring power in the affected areas “as soon as possible.”

“The ash fall from Taal Volcano has affected our lines in Cavite and Laguna causing brownouts,” Meralco said.

“Meralco is working to restore power in these areas as soon as possible. We will maintain electricity in unaffected areas,” it added.

The power company also assured the public of its readiness to respond to reported power-related emergencies.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano which means that “hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.”

Classes in Metro Manila and several provinces for Monday, January 13, have been suspended.
