Gunmen kill retired police chief in Pangasinan attack

DAGUPAN CITY—Four men on two motorcycles shot and killed the former police provincial director of Pangasinan on a busy national highway in Calasiao town on Thursday.

Retired Police Gen. Marlou Chan was declared dead on arrival at Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital.

Initial reports said Chan had just come from a restaurant and was in an orange Ford Ranger with his driver when they were attacked around 2 p.m.Chan sustained bullet wounds in the neck, chest and other parts of the body. His driver was unhurt.

A member of Class 1985 of the Philippine Military Academy, Chan served as director of the Ilocos Norte police and later Pangasinan police from 2013 to 2015. His last assignment was head of the directorate for integrated police operations in Mindanao, and later Northern Luzon. He retired in March 2019. —YOLANDA SOTELO
