Girl,14, dies after she was trapped in burning house

SANTIAGO CITY-A 14-year-old girl died while three of her relatives were injured when a fire razed their house here on Thursday (Jan 9) yet, authorities said.

Police identified the fatality as Nadine Zerrudo Viernes while the injured as Nestor Selmo Zerrudo, 66, and his wife Aida Ancheta-Zerrudo, 64, and Sophia Zerrudo Viernes, 10, all residents of San Jose Village.

The victims were sleeping when the fire hit the house, apparently due to an electrical short circuit.

Their neighbors tried to help in dousing the fire but the girl was trapped inside her room.

Her relatives, who suffered burns, managed to get out of the house.
