BREAKING: Veteran journalist Ninez Cacho-Olivares passes away at 78

MANILA, Philippines — Ninez Cacho-Olivares, veteran journalist and founder of broadsheet The Daily Tribune, passed away on Friday after suffering from a “lingering illness.” She was 78.

“Daily Tribune founder and moving spirit Ninez Cacho-Olivares passed away the morning of 3 January due to a lingering illness,” read the post from The Daily Tribune Facebook page.

“Through all the challenges that the newspaper went through, she had one stubborn purpose, which was to put the Daily Tribune to bed every day,” it added.

Daily Tribune Business Editor Jun Vallecera also paid his respects to Olivares, who once served as the broadsheet’s editor-in-chief.

Aside from The Daily Tribune, Olivares also wrote for several Manila broadsheets including the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Bulletin Today, Business Day, and Business World.

In a statement, the Olivares family said the veteran journalist’s wake will be held at the Capilla de la Virgen in Santuario de San Antonio on McKinley Road, Forbes Park, Makati City, starting Saturday, January 4, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. while a funeral mass will be held at Santuario de San Antonio Chapel on Monday, January 6, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.
