MANILA, Philippines — Google on Friday celebrated the 105th birthday of Filipino author Genoveva Matute with a tribute doodle.
In the Google doodle, Matute could be seen writing on a desk in front of bookshelves.
Matute was a writer and academic who became widely known for her short stories, many of which fictionalized scenes from Filipino history.
Considered as Matute’s most famous work is “Ang Kuwento Ni Mabuti” (“The Story of Mabuti”) which was published in 1948.
Matute won four Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards between 1951 and 1961 for her short stories.
Her “Ang Kuwento ni Mabuti” was the first Tagalog short story to receive the first ever Palanca Award for Short Story in Filipino.
