4 dead, 3 hurt as tricycle collides with bus in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Philippines  – Four passengers of a tricycle were killed while three others were hurt when their vehicle was hit by an incoming bus along the Maharlika Highway in Candelaria town in Quezon province on Wednesday, police said.

Candelaria police identified those killed as tricycle driver Wilson Garma, 29;  Cristito Garma, 60; Althea Garma, 5; and Florylane Garma, 31.

All the victims were rushed to the Peter Paul Medical Center in Candelaria but Wilson, Cristito and Althea died along the way. Florylane meanwhile died while undergoing treatment.

The three other passengers of the tricycle who were identified as Corazon Garma, 53; Ashley Dianne Garma, 10; and Jhon Wine Garma, 4, remain confined at the hospital due to injuries.

The police report did not say how the victims are related to each other.

Police said the tricycle collided head-on with the Lucena-bound Lucena Liner Inc. bus being driven Dario Aliocod in Barangay (village) Bukal Sur at around 6 p.m.

Police said the bus driver was detained at the local police jail
