Baguio cabbie faces assault rap vs cop in case caught on video
BAGUIO CITY—The Baguio police could file an assault case against a cabbie who was caught on video apparently trying to run over a police officer to elude a traffic citation ticket on Tuesday (Dec. 31).
The video showed the taxicab moving forward several times appearing to chase the policeman, Patrolman Julius Walang, who blocked the cab’s way on Abanao Street which leads to the Baguio police office and City Hall.
Walang held tightly on the hood of the taxicab when it briefly accelerated, the video showed.
The cabbie had been identified and failed an alcohol test, through breathalyzer, which suggested he may have been intoxicated, according to Col. Allan Rae Co, Baguio police chief.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong had ordered an investigation, according to the city government’s public information office.
The incident took place during the New Year rush. The video showed people with packages lining up for rides near the public market.
