Rainy New Year’s Day in Northern Luzon due to ‘amihan’
MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or “amihan” will bring rains in Northern Luzon on New Year’s Day, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.
In its weather bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Cagayan Valley Region, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and northern Quezon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.
This is caused by the northeast monsoon and the tail-end of a cold front, Pagasa said.
Ilocos Region and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also brought by the northeast monsoon.
Pagasa warned of possible gusty conditions in mountainous and coastal areas and possible isolated flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country. #
