DOH: Fireworks-related injuries climb to 34

MANILA, Philippines — As the New Year draws nearer, the number of fireworks-related injuries has climbed to 34 on Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The number of cases recorded from December 21 to December 28 is 21 percent lower compared to the same period of 2018, and 71 percent lower than the five-year average, DOH said.

The injuries were all due to fireworks, and no stray bullet injuries or firework ingestion cases have been reported. There also have been no deaths.

According to the  DOH, most of the injuries reported were from the National Capital Region (NCR),  Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) and the Bicol regions.

Of the 34 recorded injuries, 11 were caused by prohibited fireworks such as boga (five), piccolo (four) and 5-star (two).
