Fair weather expected ahead of New Year — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos can expect fair-weather days ahead of the New Year, the state weather bureau said Friday.

“Makakaasa tayo ng fair weather for December 29, December 30 and December 31. Bahagyang hihina muli ang northeast monsoon, iiral ang easterlies sa ating bansa,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a press briefing.

(We can expect fair weather for December 29, December 30 and December 31. The northeast monsoon will slightly ease and the easterlies will prevail.)

From New Year’s Day onwards, Estareja said the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will strengthen anew and will bring cloudy skies and light rains over Luzon.

Meanwhile, Estareja said Typhoon Ursula is expected to turn into a severe tropical storm as it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

While Ursula is no longer affecting the country, Pagasa said the tail-end of a cold front will bring moderate to occasional rains over most of the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The state weather bureau warned this may trigger flooding or landslides in the said areas.
