‘Overspeeding’ causing ‘massacre daily’ – Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — Saying the death toll in overspeeding accidents is comparable to a “massacre,” President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the police to “control” overspeeding vehicles on the country’s roads.

In a speech in Cotabato City on Monday night, the President lamented the lives lost in recent accidents involving overspeeding trucks, which he said were “not acceptable” to him.

“Truck drivers, you should control your speed. Accidents nowadays have fatalities, 10, 20. I have to think about that. That has to stop. It’s almost an adventure now if you ride a truck because the driver will really smash it,” he said.

“The dead would reach 20, 22. It’s no longer acceptable to me and maybe to others also. So the control is in the hands of the police,” he said.
