Siargao 9th on list of 20‍ best backpacking destinations‍

Siargao Island has been named one of the world’s 20 best backpacking destinations for 2020 by Hostelworld, a global hostel-focused online booking platform.

In a list published on its website, Hostelworld ranked Siargao ninth best backpacking destinations for 2020, based on the biggest growth in bookings in the last 12 months.‍‍‍‍

The online booking platform described Siargao as “a surfer’s paradise” and the “wave-riding capital” of the Philippines that has plenty more to offer backpacking tourists.“Full of treasures like waterfalls, lagoons, caves, jungle and, of course, those beaches, it’s one of the best backpacking destinations for nature lovers,” Hostelworld said.

It added that tourists can expect an “awesome nightlife” on the island in the form of casual bars and cocktail buckets, the most popular of which is the Jungle Party on Friday nights.‍‍‍‍

Siargao beat other destinations namely, Gijón, Spain; Nassau, Bahamas; Hà Giang, Vietnam; Buenaventura, Colombia; Liège, Belgium; Trapani, Italy; Pisac, Peru; Raglan, New Zealand; Portland, Maine in the United States, and Sendai, Japan.The list was topped by Nusa Penida, Indonesia, followed by Surat Thani, Thailand; Maribor, Slovenia; Hossegor, France; Trondheim, Norway; Kodaikanal, India; Isfahan, Iran and Nosara, Costa Rica.

According to its website, Hostelworld has more than 12 million reviews across 17,400 hostel properties in more than 178 countries, making the brand a leading online hub for social travel. ‍‍‍‍Hostelworld, which is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, said 51 percent of hostel travelers using the platform say that the most important factor in a great trip is meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

The website operates in 19 different languages and its mobile app, in 13 languages.
