MANILA, Philippines — A police officer of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was killed by unidentified gunmen in Taguig City late on Monday.

Master Sgt. Napoleon Zamora died on the spot after he was shot repeatedly by four assailants on motorcycles on M.L. Quezon Street in Barangay Bagumbayan around 11 p.m.

The 45-year-old victim was assigned at the Regional Headquarters Support Unit of the NCRPO. He left behind his wife and their four children.

A report by the Taguig police said that the shooting occurred while Zamora was driving his motorcycle on his way home to Muntinlupa City, after attending his unit’s Christmas party at Camp Bagong Diwa.

After leaving the police camp, he was followed by the motorcycle-riding gunmen who shot him several times.

The police said they were still trying to determine the motive behind the killing.

Based on a news report, in 2000, Zamora, then a Police Officer 1 assigned at the Quezon City Police District, was arrested by the now defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force, along with five other “kotong cops.”

He was accused of receiving P200 from a jeepney driver on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

Zamora’s killing came a day after another Metro Manila policeman, Cpl. Edgil Bombase of the Manila Police District, died while on duty.

He died due to multiple organ failure after he was wounded in a shootout with two robbery suspects in Santa Cruz, Manila, on Dec. 11.
