9 dead in Cardona, Rizal road crash

MANILA, Philippines — At least nine persons were confirmed dead following a road mishap involving a jeepney and two trucks in Cardona, Rizal Tuesday morning, police said.
“Nine po and then meron pa pong itinakbo sa hospital. We’re still trying to find out kung ilan po,” Cardona, Rizal police chief Pcpt. Juner Mojares said in a radio dzMM interview.
Mojares said one truck fell into a ravine near residential houses, while the other truck collided with the jeepney.
“Ang involved po nating sasakyan ay isang jeep and then dalawa pong truck. Yung isa po ay nalaglag sa parang ravine na may bahayan sa baba. Nalaglag po doon yung isang truck and then ang kasalpukan po ng isang truck ay yung jeepney naman po,” Mojares said.
Mojares said one of the two trucks may have swerved out of control after a brake malfunction.
“Based on initial investigation po, meron pong allegedly nawalan po ng preno itong truck from Binangonan,” Mojares said.
Police have yet to identify the fatalities, including bystanders and passers-by.
