6 die in Bulacan due to suspected meningococcemia this year

CITY OF MALOLOS –– Six people in Bulacan province died of suspected meningococcemia this year, local health officials said.

The most recent case was that of a 54-year-old man who died on Wednesday while being treated at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, according to Dr. Jocelyn Gomez, Bulacan public health officer.

Gomez said the man developed rashes in the face, and experienced abdominal pain and breathing difficulty since Sunday.

In October, two persons suspected of contracting meningococcemia also died in the province.

The other cases also manifested all symptoms of meningococcemia./lzb
