Bad weather hampers power restoration in parts of Albay

LEGAZPI CITY –– Bad weather has hampered the restoration of electricity in parts of Albay, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said on Friday.

“Due to inclement weather and non-stop heavy rains, NGCP’s restoration work at the Daraga-Tiwi 230kV line stopped at 11 p.m. last night (Thursday) to ensure the safety our crew,” NGCP said in an advisory.

Electricity was expected to be restored on Thursday, ten days after Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) toppled thousands of power lines.

Pat Guttierez, spokesperson of Albay Power Energy Corp, said the primary lines were ready on the expected date of restoration.

“As of now the NGCP has no advise yet so we cannot tell the time of restoration,” Guttierez said Friday.

At least 275 poles had been replaced out of 1,373 damaged lines, while 142 were repaired out of 722 leaning poles.

She said they were continuously mobilizing their staff members to ensure the speedy restoration of power./lzb
