CITY OF CALAPAN –– A Mangyan leader in Oriental Mindoro has appealed for help after Typhoon “Tisoy” devastated them last week.
Aisik Unday, 57, indigenous peoples mandatory representative from Bansud town, said at least 146 families have yet to receive assistance from the government.
“Tisoy is so far the strongest typhoon that I’ve experienced. We evacuated to neighbors whose houses are more elevated,” he said.
He said the typhoon destroyed their houses and crops in Barangay Pag-asa.
Fr. Gabby Oybad, director of the diocesan service commission of the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, said livelihood was most affected among the already impoverished communities, especially in the mountains of San Teodoro, Bongabong, Mansalay, and Bulalacao towns.
In Naujan town, the typhoon displaced around 668 families. Seventeen houses were damaged, and 40 were destroyed.
