98 arrested in NCR for vaping in public; 812 vape stores closed

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has arrested a total of 98 persons caught vaping in public areas.

NCRPO acting director Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas said in a press briefing Tuesday that 98 vape gadgets were also confiscated.

A total of 812 vape stores that lack permits were closed while 297 stores were likewise advised to be closed for lacking business documents.

The data covered November 23 until December 10, 6 a.m.

Based on the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, the arrested violators were only brought to police stations to have their offense recorded in police blotter before being released.

The arrests were made after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered to ban the use of vape in public areas and its importation, saying it is “dangerous” and “toxic.”
