MANILA, Philippines — The closing ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Wednesday, Dec. 11, is expected to cause heavy traffic along Edsa and other major roads in Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
The MMDA has advised motorists to avoid using Edsa’s yellow lanes as at least 114 buses and other types of vehicles with SEA Games delegates aboard will be using them to travel from the different billeting hotels to the New Clark Athletics Stadium in New Clark City in Tarlac after lunchtime on Wednesday.
The closing ceremony will be held at the New Clark Athletics Stadium in New Clark City, in Capas, Tarlac at 5 pm.
“Convoys will use the yellow lane and inserts towards flyover, and tunnel/underpass while traveling along Edsa. Motorists are advised to avoid the yellow lane and give way to the convoy,” the MMDA said in a statement.
It added that traffic personnel are also deployed in key areas in the metropolis to assist motorists and facilitate the movement of the convoys.
The SEA Games started on Nov. 30. Since then, the MMDA has been implementing a “stop and go” traffic scheme along Edsa, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue and other thoroughfares in Metro Manila for the transport of athletes, sports officials and other guests.
