Cebu student faces raps for claiming he was abducted by men on white van

CEBU CITY –– A 21-year-old college student from Danao City, northern Cebu will face charges for claiming he was almost abducted by men on board a white van.

Police said Brigs Granada Alvaro caused public alarm and scandal over his false claims on Facebook.

He will be charged for violation of the law prohibiting alarms and scandals and the law on cybercrime.

Lt. Col. Maribel Getigan, chief of the Danao City Police Station, said they requested the student who posted about the alleged kidnapping incident to appear before them.

“We invited him to the police station and did some interrogation. It turned out it was not true,” said Getigan.

In his Facebook account, Alvaro warned the people in Danao City about a white van lurking in their city and that he was almost abducted by unidentified men last weekend.

The post went viral and was shared about a hundred times.

Getigan said the police and the Danao City government were alarmed by the post.

“When he appeared to us, he sought for forgiveness, saying his claims were false,” she said.

Although Alvaro has apologized, Getigan said they would still file a complaint against the student. /lzb
