Oriental Mindoro declares state of calamity

CITY OF CALAPAN – The provincial board on Wednesday declared a state of calamity in Oriental Mindoro amid the widespread devastation left behind by Typhoon Tisoy earlier this week.

Damage to crops, property and infrastructure was initially pegged at over P384 million.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said damage to the agriculture sector is almost P300 million.  Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P87,300,000.

The province also recorded two casualties: Ildefonso Delos Santos, 59, of Baco town and Jesie Santos, 37, of Pinamalayan town.

Nine other residents were injured.

Tisoy, which has since weakened to a tropical storm, displaced 16,850 families or 72,234 individuals, damaged or destroyed 2,762 houses and submerged 39 barangays.
