Fire destroys Lucena’s old public school

LUCENA CITY –– A three-hour fire partially destroyed a Gabaldon-type elementary school building here on Tuesday night after Typhoon “Tisoy” exited Quezon province.

The blaze destroyed the inner part of the main building of Lucena West 1 Elementary School compound located in Barangay Ilayang Iyam at the entrance of the city proper.

The blaze did not alter the façade of the building. The old building has been undergoing renovation, which started a week ago.

Lucena police reported that the fire started around 7:25 p.m. and was declared fire out at 9:55 p.m.

Police placed the damage at P8 million.

No one was harmed or injured during the fire as the authorities suspended the class from Monday to Wednesday due to storm Tisoy.

Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
