MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the number coding scheme starting at 12 noon Tuesday due to the anticipated impact of Typhoon Tisoy in the capital region.

The number coding scheme, also known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), is the main government scheme to help ease metro traffic flow as it reduces the volume of vehicles plying Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Vehicles with license plates ending in 3 and 4 are supposedly prohibited to travel on Metro Manila’s main roads every Tuesday.
The state weather bureau has put Metro Manila under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2, which means that winds measuring 61 kilometers per hour (kph) to 120 kph may be expected in the area for at least 24 hours.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also said Metro Manila could experience frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains between Tuesday morning and late afternoon, while frequent to continuous heavy (with isolated intense) rains may be experienced between Tuesday late afternoon and Wednesday morning.
Malacañang has also suspended government work and classes in all levels in Metro Manila beginning Tuesday noon due to the possible impact of Typhoon Tisoy.
