Evacuations start in Marinduque coastal towns

SAN PEDRO CITY—At least 100 people were moved out of their homes on Monday, Dec. 2, as Typhoon Tisoy (international name Kammuri) moved closer to land.

Provincial disaster response chief Rino Labay said these were residents in coastal areas.

The evacuations were done in at least two towns—Gasan and Torrijas.

In a phone interview past noon, Labay said more people were being moved out of their homes in the town of Boac.

Labay denied that there was a tsunami warning in Marinduque but evacuations were part of preemptive measures.

A report from the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan Office of the Civil Defense said 880 people were stranded in different ports in the region after several boat trips were cancelled.

Food and medicines were stocked at evacuation centers. Maricar Cinco
