LEGAZPI CITY — The provincial government of Catanduanes has evacuated 3,401 families as Typhoon Tisoy started to bring moderate rains and gusty winds in the province on Monday, Dec. 2.
Jerry Beo, head of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said as of 1 p.m., 3,401 families or 14,646 individuals were evacuated from the towns of Baras, San Miguel, Bagamanoc, Caramoran, Gigmoto, Pandan, San Andres and Virac.
They lived in flood, storm surge and landslide-prone areas.
Last Friday, acting Gov. Shirley Abundo has ordered a liquor ban in the province effective Monday.
Ariel Zamudio, weather forecaster of Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Southern Luzon in Legazpi City, said based on the 11 a.m., forecast, Tisoy will make landfall in Catanduanes, Albay or Sorsogon as it continued to move westward at 25 kilometers per hour.
It has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 185 kph, he said. Ma. April Mier-Manjares
