LUCENA CITY –The provincial government of Quezon has canceled the scheduled switch-on lighting ceremony of the giant Christmas tree at the Perez park on Monday afternoon due to the approaching Typhoon Tisoy (international name: Kammuri).

The announcement of the cancellation was posted on the Facebook page of Quezon Public Information Office (PIO) Monday morning.

Janet Geneblazo, Quezon PIO chief, said the decision to cancel the annual event was reached during the emergency meeting called by Governor Danilo Suarez due to the threat of Typhoon Tisoy.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council response clusters composed of police, military and different government agencies.

On Monday, the state weather bureau placed the entire province under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) predicted that by Tuesday afternoon, the typhoon’s center would be in the vicinity of Tayabas City, 11 kilometers from Lucena City, the Quezon provincial capital.
