The Quezon City government has denied accusations that 121 African swine fever (ASF)-infected pigs were secretly buried near Pook Arboretum at the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City. Residents complained that the burial of the pigs near their houses released bad odor that might cause health risks to their community. The city government said consultative meetings were held first with barangay officials, hog raisers and the UP administration. An ASF assessment team then looked for the best area for burial within the UP campus.—MARIEJO S. RAMOS
