TACLOBAN CITY –– Fast crafts bound for Cebu from Ormoc City, Leyte, were canceled on Friday afternoon due to strong waves.

Apprentice Seaman Tom Kevin Garcia of the Coast Guard based in Ormoc City, however, could not say how many passengers were stranded after 2GoSuper Cat and Ocean Jet suspended their trips to Cebu.

“The suspension was mainly due to the big waves,” Garcia said in a mobile phone interview.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration is monitoring the movement of a storm (international name: Kammuri) that might enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Saturday evening to Sunday morning.

Once it enters the PAR, the storm would be called “Tisoy,” which was expected to hit Luzon and the Visayas.

This early, Mayor Joseph Caingcoy of the island-town of Maripipi in Biliran province, issued an executive order on Friday, directing all the barangay chairpersons and other concerned municipal officials to take all preemptive and proactive measures in anticipation of any eventuality due to “Tisoy.” /lzb
