QC cops nab robbery gang leader, cohort

MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Barangay Masambong police station arrested an alleged leader of the Asadon Robbery Gang and an accomplice in Quezon City on Thursday morning, police said.

Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, acting director of the Quezon City Police District, identified the arrested gang leader as Mark Asadon, alias Macky, 23, and his cohort, Jimuel De Leon, alias Kokoy.

The arrests of the suspects came after a victim, who requested not to be identified, went to the Masambong police station to report that she was robbed of her cellphone by two unidentified robbers along Edsa corner Roosevelt Avenue at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Police then conducted hot pursuit operation and apprehended Asadon along Cagayan Street corner Congressional Avenue. Lawmen later arrested De Leon during a manhunt operation.

Seized from Asadon were caliber .38 revolver with three bullets and a hand grenade.

Police said the Asadon robbery hold-up group was behind a series of snatching and robbery incidents at Edsa corner Roosevelt Avenue.

The arrested suspects and evidence were brought to the Masambong police station. They will face charges of robbery hold-up, violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and unlawful possession of explosives.

Montejo is encouraging the gang’s victims to file charges against the suspects.
