Probers to check victims’ background

Police are looking into the background of the victims in last Thursday’s shooting in barangay Talamban, Cebu City, where motorcycle-riding men gunned down two store workers and wounded the female store owner.

Police said the wife of slain worker Randy Librando will be invited to shed light in the attack, which did not involve robbery.

Librando had filed for annulment of his marriage.

His relatives told police that the wife, Susan Coliamat, may have knowledge about who would want to harm the man.

Librando and Dioscoro Abendan were shot in the head and killed by gunmen who pretended to be store customers.

The store owner, Thelma Igot of Talamban Glass Supply, was wounded in the neck and in the body.

Police noted that Igot’s husband, Clemete, was killed in 2003.

The assailant, Ricardo Fortaleza, was convicted for the killing and sentenced to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinglupa.

PO3 Ruth Bongo said police learned from the widow’s relatives that Fortaleza had threatened to get even once he was released from jail.

The two store workers were standing outside Talamban Glass Supply in sitio Kalubihan past 4 p.m. last Thursday when three men on motorcycle arrived.
One man approached Librando and shot him twice. Another gunman shot the female store owner.

Abendan, the store owner’s brother, tried to intervene but was killed.

PO3 Bongo, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office, said it was the relatives of Librando who asked the police to investigate if the killing was related to Librando’s rocky marriage.

Police said the victims wife, Collamat, was a former barangay captain of Kinawajan in San Remigio town, northern Cebu, who ran for vice mayor in the last election but lost.

Cartographic sketches of the gunmen will be released soon. Two of the gunmen did not cover their faces while the driver’s features were covered by a crash helmet.

Police are still preparing the cartographic sketches of the assailants.
