MANILA, Philippines — To pave the way for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and the bicameral conference committee meetings, the Senate has decided to suspend its session next week and resume on December 9.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said Pasay City Day will be celebrated on Monday, December 2, which means it will be a holiday in the city. The Senate is located in Pasay City.
The senator added that Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) activities in areas near the Senate such as the PICC will also be at its peak on December 3 and 4.
He said there will be road blockings and re-routings, making it difficult for many of the staff to report for work.
Aside from Pasay City Day and the SEA Games, the bicameral conference committee will also hold its meeting starting November 29 until the first week of December.
“Since we have 15 members in the bicam, I don’t think we’ll be able to achieve a quorum in the plenary,” Zubiri said.
Zubiri said members of the majority and minority floor have agreed to resume Senate session on December 9, Monday.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III, however, clarified that despite the suspension of the session in the upper chamber, the bicameral conference committee meetings will push through.
