MANILA, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday said it favors the suspension of classes in all schools and universities in Metro Manila to give way to the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

“On our part, we support the calls na magdeclare ng class suspension [to declare class suspension] if that decision is going to be made,” DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said in a press conference when asked if the government will suspend classes in the National Capital Region to alleviate traffic congestion during the duration of the biennial games.

Malaya said the suspension of classes may be necessary to address vehicular traffic congestion in Metro Manila, where several SEAG venues are located.
