A delivery man was hailed a hero after helping rescue a 7-week-old baby from a house fire in Nottinghamshire, England.

Habeel Khan was making his delivery rounds when he spotted smoke coming from a home near Stapleford town, as per Daily Mail last Sunday, Nov. 24.

When the 26-year-old delivery man checked if anyone remained in the house, a woman (unidentified in the report) with two kids shouted and told him that her baby was still in there. Upon hearing this, Khan immediately ran into the burning home with the woman to save her baby.

“My natural instinct was to just run across to the house,” Khan was quoted as saying. “I could see loads of smoke and lots of people panicking outside.”

“She managed to pick up the baby from a room next to the kitchen where the fire had started, then we ran out,” he added.

Following the incident, Khan helped the family calm down until paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene, as per report. He then continued with the rest of his deliveries for the day.

Despite his heroic act, Khan insisted that it was “just a normal day at work” for him.

“I didn’t really think anything of it,” he said in the report. “I just thought I’d helped out, and had done a little good deed.”

Anthony Hemmerdinger, senior vice president of operations for Asda, the company Khan works for, applauded him for the rescue.

“What Habeel did was remarkable and it’s not something we would recommend that our colleagues do,” Hemmerdinger said, “However, it’s clear that in this instance his instinct kicked in and he did a remarkable job.” Ryan Arcadio /ra
