2,000 MPD cops deployed to SEAG venues
MANILA, Philippines — Around 2,000 Manila policemen have been assigned to secure some of the venues in the city for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Lt. Col. Carlo Magno Manuel, Manila Police District (MPD) Public Information Office chief, said that 448 lawmen would be deployed to the vicinity of the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate, where the football matches started on Monday.
Nearly 300 policemen, on the other hand, would be assigned to Manila Hotel, the venue for the billiard competition beginning on Dec. 3.
The rest would be sent to the hotels where some of the SEA Games participants were staying.
The MPD closed the southbound and northbound lanes of Adriatico Street on Nov. 23, and motorists were advised to take alternate routes until the SEA Games end on Dec. 11.
The closures were aimed at facilitating the travel of athletes and delegates bound for Rizal Memorial Stadium or staying in nearby hotels.
