PNP on full alert in 4 regions for 30th SEA Games

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday placed its regional offices in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region on full alert status to beef up security for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said in a press briefing that national operations support units were also placed on full alert status to ensure the full presence of policemen in strategic, key areas effective 8 a.m.

The full alert status will be lifted on December 14, Banac said.

Other national administrative support units of the PNP, meanwhile, will be on heightened  alert for the entire duration of the SEA Games from November 30 to December 11.

Around 27,000 police personnel were deployed in regions hosting SEA Games events.

530 events in 56 sporting disciplines will be hosted in different venues across Luzon.

Banac announced that the PNP-Highway Patrol Group will field over 100 mobile patrol units with 175 personnel for the convoy security of delegates. 

He said the police unit is also prepared to respond to accidents and medical emergencies.

The PNP-Police Security Protection Group will likewise deploy 519 officers to secure SEA Games delegates.
