MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has nullified the low score it earlier gave Taguig City for its unsatisfactory compliance to the government’s order to clear streets of obstructions and reclaim it for public use.
This was after hearing Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano explain the city’s “unique situation,” as well as baring his plan to clear the city’s roads.
In a statement released Wednesday, DILG spokesperson Usec. Jonathan Malaya said that during the meeting between Cayetano and DILG Sec. Eduardo Año’s, the mayor explained that Taguig is facing challenges of being a “probinsyudad,” (province-city) that has a “unique mix” of highly urbanized areas and narrow roads.
It was also during that meeting, Malaya said, that Cayetano bared his “Improving Vehicle and Pedestrian Mobility Plan”, a three-pronged approach to clear the roads in Taguig.
Upon considering Cayetano’s explanation, the DILG then ordered to nullify the low compliance rating given to the city. The department also ordered the DILG-National Capital Region Regional Office to conduct another validation for Taguig.
Out of the 17 Metro Manila local government units that have participated in the road clearing operations, Taguig City was the only local government unit that got a low-compliance rating from the DILG.

A total of 6,899 roads nationwide were considered cleared by the DILG during the government-ordered 60-day road clearing operations. Out of the total roads, 612 of these are in Metro Manila.
