TAGBILARAN CITY –– Two persons were killed when their motorcycle collided with a van along the national highway in Corella town in Bohol province at past 4 p.m. on Monday.
Police Corporal Christopher Ramirez, Corella Police Station investigator, identified the fatalities as Roniel Placa, 33, a resident of Barangay Yanaya in Bilar town; and his backrider Raymond Piyao, 25, a native of Davao del Norte.
An investigation revealed that Placa and Piyao came from a birthday party in Sikatuna town and were drunk. Their colleagues told the police that they persuaded the two not to drive.
“They even chased them to stop them but they didn’t listen,” said Ramirez.
While they were traversing a curve in Barangay Canapnapan in Corella, they overtook another vehicle and did not notice the approaching delivery van on the opposite lane.
Police said they were wearing helmets, but the impact of the collision was so strong that the two were thrown off their motorcycle.
Placa died on the spot, while Piyao succumbed to multiple wounds at a hospital in Tagbilaran City.
