Visitor of high-profile inmate at Bilibid yields ‘shabu’

MANILA, Philippines — A woman was arrested after allegedly yielding a sachet of suspected “shabu” while she was about to visit a high-profile inmate at the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) identified the suspect as Milagros Hipolito, 62.

According to police, NBP personnel found on Wednesday morning the suspected illegal drugs weighing around 2.5 grams and worth around P17,000 from the suspect during the frisking on her body as part of the standard operating procedure at the facility.

Police said drug charges will be filed against the suspect, who was turned over to the Station Investigation Detective Management Section of the Muntinlupa City Police Station.

“This is an output of the extensive security reformations being implemented in the country’s main insular penitentiary,” said Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, acting NCRPO director.

Police have yet to disclose the name of the inmate, who appears to be a high-profile detainee at the NBP, that the woman was supposed to visit or their relationship.
