RAMON, Isabela –– Mild earthquakes rocked Quirino province on Wednesday night and Cagayan province on Thursday morning as residents prepared for Typhoon “Ramon.”
Calayan town in Cagayan was shaken by a 3.6-magnitude tectonic quake at 10:51 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
At 10:28 p.m. on Wednesday, a 4.9-magnitude quake struck Nagtipunan in Quirino.
No aftershocks were reported and the twin tremors did not leave any damage.
Roused from his sleep by the rocking, Quirino resident Fheng Padin Dela Rosa said the Wednesday quake “was brief but strong [and] I was not able to sleep after that.”
Cristy Lagera said the tremor was strong enough to topple her home entertainment set.
Even Ramon town, which hosts the Magat Dam in Isabela, felt the quake, said Ramon resident Ryne Naayao Lapnawan.
Magat dam officials immediately examined the facility and confirmed that the dam was unharmed, said Carlo Ablan, Magat flood forecasting division chief of the National Irrigation Administration.
“We needed to see if there was a change in the pressure. It is okay, so far,” he said. /lzb
