The precursor of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was created on Nov. 13, 1936 by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 181.

The agency was originally called the Division of Investigation before it was reorganized into the Bureau of Investigation in June 1947 through Republic Act No. 157.

It was renamed the NBI by virtue of Executive Order No. 94 issued on Oct. 4, 1947.

The NBI main office is on Taft Avenue in Ermita, Manila. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
