MANILA, Philippines — Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Ylagan on Tuesday took over as chief of the Northern Police District (NPD), saying he would launch a continuous crackdown on illegal drugs and criminality while weeding out scalawags from the ranks.

Ylagan replaced Brig. Gen. Rolando Anduyan who was transferred to the Northern Mindanao regional police office.

During the NPD turnover held in Caloocan City, NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas encouraged policemen to proudly wear their uniform in restaurants and other public places.

“You should be proud to wear your uniform if you’re not involved in extortion, illegal drugs. Don’t be ashamed to wear your uniforms at restaurants, especially if you’re footing the bill,” Sinas said. —Nikka G. Valenzuela
