PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga Del Sur –– Residents in Barangay Upper Campo Islam, Labangan town in Zamboanga del Sur are still on alert after ice pellets fell on the roof of their houses during a heavy rain Tuesday afternoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration on Tuesday advised that isolated rain showers and thunderstorms were to be experienced in some parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula.
On Wednesday, the rains persisted, making residents anxious about having the same experience as Tuesday’s.
Al-faiden Momin of Barangay Upper Campo Islam told the Inquirer that they thought pieces of stones were being thrown at their roofs during the heavy rain but they later saw the ice pellets bouncing on their roofs.
Randy Laguiab also narrated having a similar experience, worried that if a large volume of ice pellets fell from the sky, these would damage their roofs.
Marvin Julius Pagaduan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Action Officer, said it was the rain of ice pellets was the first time in Labangan.
Four other barangays had a similar experience: Upper Campo Islam, Lantian, Tapodoc, and New Labangan, Pagaduan further said. /lzb
