A man who insisted on taking a swim in bad weather was later found floating dead off barangay Marigondon in Lapu-Lapu City, yesterday.
Reynante Aviso, a 29-year-old electrician, was was part of a group of 50 attending a company outing in the Rendezvous Beach Resort.
His 28-year-old girl partner Lady Rose Jumao-os reported him missing. She said her partner was already intoxicated with wine when he insisted on taking a swim around 6 p.m. Monday despite warnings of lifeguards to stay away from the shoreline due to bad weather.
“We warned him that it was dangerous him but he did not listen,” said Dodong Amores, a resort employee.
The couple and their five children aged 2 to 10 attended the beach party hosted by her boss who owns a tapsilogan in Mabolo, Cebu City.
“There were still a few lifeguards around but he slipped past them. It was raining hard,” Jumao-os said in Cebuano.
Jumao-os said she looked for her partner as they were already about to go home but couldn’t find him.
A search team was sent to look for Aviso but to no avail.
Yesterday morning, Japanese scuba divers also helped in the search.
At noon, a fisherman discovered the man floating and brought his body to the shore.
Police said the victim could have drowned due to the strong current last Monday. Police said there was no sign of foul play in his death. /correspondents Norman Mendoza, Edison delos Angeles
