1 dead, 7 hurt in vehicular accident in Or. Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN — One person died while seven others were critically injured in a vehicular accident on Friday morning in Bongabong town in Oriental Mindoro.

Lt. Col. Socrates Faltado, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) police information officer, said a private jeepney, carrying about 30 passengers, was traveling from Barangay Rosacara in Bansud going to Barangay Lisap in Bongabong when a mechanical failure happened, causing the driver to lose control of the brake about 9:30 a.m. in Barangay Hagan.

The vehicle, which was driven by Jayson Dote, 28, slid and flipped, Faltado said.

Passenger Rodolfo Gunay died on the spot due to injuries.

Other passengers Bente Carreon, Merlinda Carreon, Berto Mendoza, Feleciano Liza, Aregaldo Rain, Manalo Floren, and Victoriana Gunay suffered severe injuries. They had to be transferred to Calapan City for medical treatment.
