SAN PEDRO CITY — Two people were killed in separate incidents of highway robbery in Rizal and Laguna provinces.
Reports from the Calabarzon police on Friday showed that the attacks happened at dawn on Thursday in Taytay, Rizal and in Cabuyao City, Laguna.
One of the victims was identifed as Carla Camille Perez, a 23-year-old employee of an electronics company.
The police said Perez, with a friend Kim Earvin Mabuyo, 20, was driving a motorcycle on their way home to Laguna from Tagaytay City, Cavite when they were attacked around 12:45 a.m. on a dimly lit road in Barangay Pittland, Cabuyao City.
Police investigators said the robbers shot the victims several times before taking away their motorcycle and personal belongings like cellphones and money.
Perez died on the spot, while Mabuyo was brought to a hospital for bullet wounds.
In Taytay, motorist Ronilo Ampong was also killed by robbers around 4:30 a.m. along C6 Road in Barangay Sta. Ana.
Ampong was driving his motorcycle when he was stopped by at least two men, who tried to take his vehicle at gunpoint, the police said.
Investigators said Ampong might have refused to give in and that was when the robbers shot him several times in the stomach.
Ampong was taken to the Amang Rodriguez Hospital where he later died. Maricar Cinco/lzb
