3 illegal fishers nabbed in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — Combined police and “bantay-dagat” (fish warden) volunteers arrested three suspected illegal fishers in Tagkawayan town in Quezon province early Friday, police said.

Seaborne police patrol chanced upon fishermen Domingo Amor Jr., Jerson Mecidor, and Erwin Belgica aboard their respective boats while conducting unlawful fishing in the seas off Barangay Sabang around 3:30 a.m.


Police reportedly found the three fishers using “kuto-kuto”, a locally-known fishing gear, without permits.

Seized from the suspects were their motorized boat, illegal fishing paraphernalia and assorted fish catch.
